2022 Met Gala Review.......

So another year, another Met Gala event to review. I must say the celebrities brought it to the red carpet at this year's outing. I was mostly impressed that most of the attendees at the event actually stuck to the theme which was Gilded Glamour . I have compiled a small edit of my favourite looks. I must say I was disappointed that Rihanna did not grace the red carpet but the Met Museum did pay tribute to her in the best way possible with a fabulous statue, how fitting for the queen of the Met Gala. Here is the edit of my top ten favourite looks from this year's Met Gala: 1. Blake Lively 2. Kim Kardashian-West 3. Alicia Keys 4. Simone Ashley 5. Gigi Hadid 6. Kendall Jenner 7.  Bella Hadid 8. Kaia Jordan Gerber 9. Hailey Bieber 10. Sarah Jessica-Parker There are other notable mentions such as Nicki Minaj, Ciara, Sarah Jessica Parker. I must say this year was one of my favourite Met Gala editions as this year they actually stuck to the theme and went to town with it. The absen...

THE REAL HOUSEWIVES CORNER..........

It cannot be argued that one of the biggest reality tv franchises that have captured the world is the Real Housewives franchise. I am a dedicated fan and I am a follower of most of the cities. I will be using this segment of the blog to comment on the Real Housewives franchises so enjoy..... 1. The introduction of The Real Housewives of Lagos I must say that today was a significant day for the African Real Housewives franchises because they just received serious competition in the form of the ladies of Lagos. The premiere episode contained what I love in every premiere Real Housewives episode; we got a glimpse into the lives of five of the ladies and the episode contained both a touch of shade and humor. The only criticism I have is that the producers spent way too much screentime on each cast member this resulted in us as the viewers not getting enough scenes of the ladies interacting together but it was sufficient to get us to tune in next week. I must say I already have a few favori...

The word on the entertainment streets this week:

So this week was very busy in terms of entertainment news from messy divorces, to shying away from speaking about a divorce well let us get into it... 1. Minnie Dlamini ( formerly Jones) and the divorce no one saw coming' So this was something I honestly saw coming when the television special happened in 2017 but then when the years went by I had a change of mind. The reason for this was because they had a winning formula; she was a popular television personality and he was a wealthy businessman. This is a formula that should work and some other girls should follow it but then it all went to hell when the announcement was made the day on 15 February when Mrs. Dlamini - Jones announced that the last two years have not been easy for them. This was also evident on an Instagram post on their fourth anniversary that everything was not joyous in the Jones household and marriage was not easy, which is a fact we all tend to forget before saying 'yes' to the proposal. The official ...

This week's entertainment tea:

1: Kuli Robert's death: I believe that the local entertainment has lost one of its greatest gems, the late Nomakula 'Kuli 'Roberts. The famed entertainment journalist passed away on Wednesday evening after collapsing on the set of a new show. The tragic news was confirmed by her family on Thursday by her sister, actress Hlubi Mboya-Arnold released a statement stating; " It is with profound regret and sadness that we confirm the untimely passing of our dear daughter, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt Nomakula 'Kuli' Roberts. She passed away late last night (10th February) in Johannesburg. Kuli Roberts was most known for her work on various shows such as  What Not to Wear,  which was when I was first exposed to her, and other shows such as  Trending SA.  The groundwork of her career was established when she was a columnist for publications such as Fairlady and City Press. Kuli has also published a book titled, "Siren".  I was personally touched by he...

When art does justice to reality

It is often rare in the society that we live in where you watch a series on television or on your mobile that gives you a glimpse of the realities of the community that you belong in. This was the experience I received when I watched the superb Ryan Murphy produced  Hollywood . The series revolves around the narrative of young actors and actresses as they aim to make it in Tinseltown  whilst producing and starring in a movie that might change the way that representation is done in Hollywood. Ryan Murphy The story is a very great storyline but the one aspect of the series that got my attention was the representation of gay men that was done in the series. It is a known fact that Ryan Murphy is never one to shy away from representation in his work. The series did justice to portray the harsh realities that we as gay men face in a world where you are told that it is an abomination to love another man and deny us of the right to walk in public, holding hands with the pe...

Roundup: 2020 SAFTAs

We might be living in a time where unfortunately we cannot gather in public spaces but as they say in show business the show must go on. This is what happened last night as the National Film and Video foundation with the guidance of the Department of Arts & Culture, held a virtual award ceremony which was hosted by the talented Dineo Ranaka. I must say I was rather not pleased with the delayed start, but this can be excused as we have never had to host an awards show in such a manner. The biggest winner of the night was Knuckle City in terms of the awards related to the motion picture category. The feature film is centered around the relationship between a boxer and his deviant brother as they take one more shot at the big time. The night's other big winner was The River which is produced by Tshedza Pictures. The popular telenovela took home 10 awards ,whilst its sister show The Republic took a whopping seven awards which include the coveted Best TV Drama gong. The Ri...
