AFI JHB Fashion Week Roundup:

This past week the African Fashion International Johannesburg Fashion Week spring/summer collections was held at the Sandton Convention Center. I obviously was not able to attend the fashion extravaganza which was held under the theme of "African Fashion Unites" which is definitely necessary in the time that we live in.

Black was once again a fixture in David Tlale's collection

When I was reading the reviews of the fashion week, there was one constant theme; the praise for David Tlale. The show was held in honour of his constant muse who happens to be his mother, Joyce. The show potrayed a powerful woman who held her own and had a firm belief in GOD. This was especially highlighted by the soundtrack of the collection which was African beats and gospel music towards the end of the show. It was an overall  visual masterpiece.

As per past shows the runways were as as star-studded as the front rows. The most notable appearances that were made were by actress Ntando Duma and her daughter Sbahle during their appearance at the Khosi Nkosi show. The beautiful Miss SA Zozibini Tunzi also made her appearance in a simple yet glamorous combination of a branded 'African Fashion Unites) tshirt and striking red pants.

As it was during the spring/summer collections, there would obviously be the usage of flowers in the collections. One designer who did this is a masterful manner was none other than Gavin Rajah. The entire collection was centered around the unfortunate gender-based violence that has impacted our beautiful country. The collection was the result of a collaboration with @theblomboy who is a notable florist. The floral headpieces which can be seen as symbolizing cages that women are trapped in.

A beautiful Creation by Gavin Rajah

Overall the fashion week was definitely beautiful. It was an ultimate testament that fashion goes way beyond what we wear but it can be used as an instrument to create awareness about what goes on in the society that we live in.

In a perfect world when asked ‘Why do you watch reality television shows’ we might be quick to say we watch those shows because of the insights into the different lives and cultures of the cast members and so forth but if we are honest, it is the ongoing drama and conflict that has us tuning in to every episode of that specific shows. The 'revolt' against Beyonce

It is no secret that the release of a Beyonce album whether it is pre-announced or a surprise drop is bound to get the masses talking. The water-cooler talk can be both positive or negative.  This is seemingly the case with the upcoming release of the second act, Cowboy Carter  in the three act Renaissance series that Beyonce has gifted us with. The alternative album cover. Image via X @ColumbiaRecords The Cowboy Carter album sees the reigning queen of music exploring a genre which is not new within her discography and that is country music. This innovative move has sparked praise and criticism alike. The argument brought forward by the critics, most recently Azealia Banks, who is known for her very outspoken opinion, is that Beyonce is using 'victim mentality' to promote the album and to enter a market that will never embrace her. It can be said that her foray into country music has not been greatly welcomed by the listeners of the genre.  This resulted

REAL HOUSEWIVES OF DURBAN STATE OF AFFAIRS

The fourth season of The Real Housewives of Durban has not failed to deliver drama-filled episodes. The Durban based segment of the Real Housewives franchise is definitely in the frontrunner to be considered the leading African installment. The show has been getting viewers talking since it made its debut in 2021 and every season has delivered when it came to shade, drama and of course fabulous fashion. We are currently on episode 11 of the fourth season and there is much to dissect regarding the happenings of this season. 1. The ladies divided We left the group at the end of season 3 divided between Team Sorisha (Sorisha, Maria, Slee and Annie) and Team Nonku (Nonku & Jojo). The new season introduced three more ladies to the mix of the already divided circle. The new additions easily fitted into the group where most of them naturally gravitated towards the resident Queen B, I mean Sorisha. This was without the exception of Zama who ironically had been introduced to the group by S
