Imibala Unplugged Festival

The second installment of The Imibala Unplugged Festival will be held tommorow at the venue of choice for all events in PE, The Tramways. I am a big fan of live music and I truly believe in the potential of the artists that we have in the Bay.

The best thing about the line-up is that it is dominated by females. In music it can be truly said that women run things. The line-up includes the following artists:

The Scheubles are a family group that grew up in Schauderville. Their sounds are entrenched in gospel and contemporary music. The lead singers of the band are Megan and Ethan (seen above). The band has been performing their music at the Boardwalk every Sunday for the past two years.

Samantha Amanda Jennings most popularly knows as 'Miss Jay' is a local music powerhouse. She is a DJ whose sound has strong hip-hop influences but she does dabble with other genres such soul, jazz, r&b and other genres.

Miss Jay has garnered a large fanbase in Port Elizabeth and she is also the founder of the Sam Jam Sessions which are music showcases not to be missed, I know that I will most definitely be at the next one.

Lesedi Mlongo is a soulful sing/songwriter whose sound has been inspired by house music and notably afro jazz. She states that she has been moved by all the places that she has lived across the country and her music is reflective of this.

Vocalist and guitarist Julian Roy, who is relatively new to the local music scene hails from Kleinskool in the Northern Areas. As with most talented singers he got his big break in the church choir and can now be seen performing at the Bravo Bar at the Boardwalk.

The multi-talented Tarryne Swarts is the definition of success in music. She is a songwriter, pianist, producer and festival promoter. She has released a debut album titled 'Pachamama' in Granada. Tarryne's sound goes beyond the musical genre lines and it contains social messages.

This event is most definently not one to be missed by lovers of local music. Once we start supporting our local artists an industry can be developed that we can actually be proud of.

In a perfect world when asked ‘Why do you watch reality television shows’ we might be quick to say we watch those shows because of the insights into the different lives and cultures of the cast members and so forth but if we are honest, it is the ongoing drama and conflict that has us tuning in to every episode of that specific shows. The 'revolt' against Beyonce

It is no secret that the release of a Beyonce album whether it is pre-announced or a surprise drop is bound to get the masses talking. The water-cooler talk can be both positive or negative.  This is seemingly the case with the upcoming release of the second act, Cowboy Carter  in the three act Renaissance series that Beyonce has gifted us with. The alternative album cover. Image via X @ColumbiaRecords The Cowboy Carter album sees the reigning queen of music exploring a genre which is not new within her discography and that is country music. This innovative move has sparked praise and criticism alike. The argument brought forward by the critics, most recently Azealia Banks, who is known for her very outspoken opinion, is that Beyonce is using 'victim mentality' to promote the album and to enter a market that will never embrace her. It can be said that her foray into country music has not been greatly welcomed by the listeners of the genre.  This resulted

REAL HOUSEWIVES OF DURBAN STATE OF AFFAIRS

The fourth season of The Real Housewives of Durban has not failed to deliver drama-filled episodes. The Durban based segment of the Real Housewives franchise is definitely in the frontrunner to be considered the leading African installment. The show has been getting viewers talking since it made its debut in 2021 and every season has delivered when it came to shade, drama and of course fabulous fashion. We are currently on episode 11 of the fourth season and there is much to dissect regarding the happenings of this season. 1. The ladies divided We left the group at the end of season 3 divided between Team Sorisha (Sorisha, Maria, Slee and Annie) and Team Nonku (Nonku & Jojo). The new season introduced three more ladies to the mix of the already divided circle. The new additions easily fitted into the group where most of them naturally gravitated towards the resident Queen B, I mean Sorisha. This was without the exception of Zama who ironically had been introduced to the group by S
